Cheese Dishes continued

Josiah Wedgwood used the term “cheese bell covers for stands”, obviously this was inspired by their somewhat bell-like shape but it has also been suggested by Audrey Dudson in her book CHEESE DISHES, a guide to cheese dishes from 1750-1940; that the original association with the Bell Inn may have played a part too.

In the book she chronicles the development of Stilton cheese dishes. Their many varied designs reflect the regard in which the cheese has been held for over three hundred years. No other cheese in the world has inspired so many containers and implements for its storage, presentation and serving.
